How long can we stay this way?
How long can we keep doing exactly this before things have to change?
How can we shift slow enough to not disturb the water?
How can we hold on without getting attached?
Without aging too fast?
How can we keep it? Just a little bit…forever and ever
These are the questions that Dance Club is asking while we pursue our new creation called “Dance Club’s First Dance.” Sarah, Jamie, Gabe, Leslie and Eva are working with the very delicious idea of keeping going, on and on, forever, because we can, and it feels good. We rigorously persist in doing something that is essentially unproductive, in 6/8 meter, because it feels good. And this is our generous and radical act.

MORE ABOUT ARENA DANCES
ARENA DANCES is a contemporary dance company performing the work of Mathew Janczewski. The work is abstract in form, giving shape to emotions, exploring the depths and the limits of what drives us as humans to connect, to break away, to survive. Just as our emotions can veer wildly, ARENA incorporates a highly kinetic style of movement, a sweeping physicality that takes in a broad range of feelings and the posturings we may make to protect ourselves in the world. The work springs first from Mathew’s own experiences; then, through the movement and structure, ARENA seeks to find a form to give those experiences both truth and commonality.
Founded in 1995, the mission of ARENA DANCES is to make dance accessible to all through the presentation of contemporary dance, educational outreach, and community gatherings to inspire, promote dialogue and diversity.

We respectfully acknowledge that we gather here at the Southern Theater on the traditional lands of the Dakota People. This homeland has long been cared for by the Dakota, Ojibwe, and other Indigenous nations who have lived in deep relationship with this place for generations. We honor their connection to the land and their ongoing presence in our community.
